It begins

Feb 20, 2014.
We boarded our flight to take us to our new home.

There was a storm system approaching and we were really hoping the predicted rains and thunderstorm would not hold us back,  The rains did not, but the snow did.  As we arrived at the airport it started to snow.  We ate sandwiches with Bim before saying goodbye and heading through security.  Lucas was so concerned about his backpack, but everything went without incident.  His Skylanders were fine and did not set off any alarms. By the time the previous flight unloaded its passengers and we boarded the plane was covered in snow.  It took an hour to de-ice the plane and then spray the wings and plane with antifreeze.  Lucas and Jack both had window seats - they were dissappointed at first because they could not see out the snow covered windows but then the pink and green liquids cleared them and it was time to go!

An hour after scheduled departure we were finally in the sky.

Ian nursed and fell asleep during take off, and never complained one bit.  He slept the entire plane ride and only woke up when we landed.  He had a few moments of quiet fuss during the flight but it was mostly because he wanted to change positions.

During ascent, Lucas had some ear pressure and was quite uncomfortable.  We chewed gum, did big yawns and eventually he was able to focus on something else.  Lucas loved the tv in the back of the seat in front of him and kept telling me how awesome it was.  We also tracked the plane as we flew across the country.  When it came to descent, Lucas was a little nervous that his ears were going to hurt again but he had no issues and was so happy when we landed.  He excited proclaimed that it was the best day of his life and that planes are AWESOME!  The people in front of us laughed at his enjoyment.

Jack and NaNee sat behind Lucas, Ian and I.  He was such a little trooper.  I had packed both boys a backpack full of toys and coloring books but what Jack found most entertaining was the $2 ear buds we had bought him!  They had interchangeable ear buds and he had so much fun changing the colors.
Jack also loved to stand up, when the seat belt sign was off of course, and talk to Mommy and Lucas.  He was having such a good time despite the cramped conditions.

We watched the sun set from above the clouds, and then had fun watching as we flew over cities in the dark.  Lucas and I would watch the map to figure out what city we were over. When we approached out new home Lucas thought that there must be well over 100 lights down there!  I asked him if there was "only a few more than 100" and he enthusiastically replied "Maybe one million!"

Despite being well past the boys bedtime, neither Jack nor Lucas napped on the plane.  It was just way too exciting to close your eyes.

When we arrived, Daddy was there to greet us and they ran right into his arms.  They had missed him so much.

We picked up our luggage, grabbed some late night dinner.  We drove through the city and finally arrived at our new home.  The boys were excited to see where they would be living and to see their puppies.

It was almost midnight for their body clocks, and well past bedtime anyways in our new time zone, but the boys were way too excited to think about sleep.  Luckily Daddy had planned ahead and set up a tv and dvd player in their bedroom.  Daddy had also bought them some new pajamas. There was no hesitation getting their new pajamas on, and they finally got into bed.  They watched a movie to calm down and finally accepted sleep.

Travel day was finally over.

We made it.
